During state and national emergency declarations, authorities can adjust rules to facilitate the response to a disaster. This may involve adjusting rules related to licensure endorsement and even scope of practice. It is important for nurses to understand if and how these rules have changed in their state or if going to another state to practice, what are the rules in place in that state.

The American Nurses Credentialing Center has also adjusted credentialing processes to accommodate this new environment. The ANCC FAQs provide direct information on changes to support nurses seeking to be or renew their specialty and APRN credentials.
